Northport Speech Therapy is a clinician owned pediatric speech therapy practice dedicated to serving the Northport, Elwood, Greenlawn, Commack, Dix Hills and Huntington area. We provide the convenience of traveling to your home and specialize in the area of pediatrics, speech and language disordered, early intervention, special needs, autism, hearing loss, American Sign Language (ASL) and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).

We are dedicated to providing individualized, one-on-one speech therapy services that are tailored to meet the unique needs of each child. If your child requires personalized attention and a customized approach to their speech and language development, you've come to the right place.
Speech, Language & AAC Evaluations
We offer a range of evaluations, including comprehensive speech and language assessments, where we assess expressive and receptive language skills, articulation, phonology, and social communication abilities. Additionally, we specialize in Augmentative and Alternative Communication evaluations, exploring AAC options for individuals who may benefit from alternative modes of communication.
Parent training
Parents play a vital role in their child's speech and language development. We are dedicated & committed to working closely with you to enhance your child's communication skills in everyday situations. Through our comprehensive parent coaching approach, we provide you with the knowledge and tools to support your child's progress beyond therapy sessions.

Rachel Markfeld, M.S., CCC-SLP
Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist
Hello! I’m a passionate a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) who is based in Northport, NY.
I started my private practice to fill the need for SLPs in the Northport area as there are long waitlists. I have over 14 years of experience working with pediatrics within the community & schools. I began my career as a speech-language pathologist because I learned American Sign Language and loved working with deaf individuals. I earned my Master’s degree at Gallaudet University, which is a global leader in education for deaf and hard of hearing students.
My professional experience has ranged from private practice, schools, home therapy, and teletherapy. I worked with a range of populations including late talkers, language disordered, speech disordered, autism, and a wide variety of special needs children. I’ve had 4 years experience working in Australia in the outback dealing with unique challenges that the Aboriginal community face with communication and a deaf/blind center.
I have particular expertise with special needs, autism, and hearing loss. I am proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and I am well versed in Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC).
I have a strong passion for helping families give their children the right tools and strategies to communicate. I view therapy as a partnership between a client, therapist and family.
I am a mom to two small children and understand the challenges that come with raising children and all the responsibilities that come along with parenting. I’m here to help and look forward to getting to know more about you and your family.

Are You Ready to Get Started with Northport Speech Therapy?
Sessions take place in your home, in a local community location in the Northport area or online for anyone who lives in NY.
Step One: Consultation
Contact me to schedule a complimentary consultation. This can take place via phone or video call. We will discuss your concerns and address any questions you may have to determine if a communication evaluation would be beneficial
Step Two: Evaluation
Evaluations include an intake/case history, a play based speech and language sample, and informal/formal assessments as needed. An evaluation report will be provided as well as recommendations for next steps.
Step Three: Treatment sessions
After reviewing the results of the evaluation, we will develop a treatment plan to address your child’s areas of need. We will schedule treatment sessions to target these skills and create a home program to maximize progress.

We are currently only accepting private pay only. Superbill is provided upon request.
